Date Ideas for Teens

Whether you got the courage to ask out your school crush or you’re a teenage couple looking for fun new date, it’s always important to make a good impression on the date. However, picking the right date can be difficult with endless options and experiences within a bus, train, or car ride away. It’s important to pick a cheap or affordable that makes both people comfortable and have fun for 30 minutes to 12 hours.

We covered a variety of teenage date ideas in this post but if you need more date idea, try our free Date Idea Generator for a list of hundreds of the best date ideas, organized by Budget, Season, Theme, and more!

Active Date Ideas for Teens

Use these active date ideas to keep the conversation flowing for a fun date.

Work Out Together

Get outdoors (or indoors!) doing a sport you both play at school, introduce them to one of your outside-of-school hobbies, or signup for an activity (e.g., acroyoga, ping-pong, rock climbing) you both don’t have much experience with.

Go for a Long Nature Walk or Run at State or National Park

Go for a Long Bike Ride to a Different Town or City

Find an local bike path near you and make it a destination with coffee or food afterward.

Go Rock Climbing

As excellent for a rainy date idea, although this is a more expensive date, it’s a great chance to make it a full day if there are nearby attractions or stores to explore between climbing sessions (you will get tired FAST).

Rent Paddleboards or Kayaks

Get some fresh air, water and sun for a fun-filled afternoon. Even Orlando Bloom can paddleboard.

Go Rollerskating

If you don’t plan on buying new rollerskates, check your garage for a family member’s rollerskates, or visit your local thrift store.

Go Sailing/Windsurfing

Teach them to kiteboard or windsurf, if you have the equipment (or rent!)

Classic, Cute Date for Teens

Grab Some Ice Cream or Coffee and People Watch

Meetup with your date at the mall or your local, touristy downtown and just sit for an hour or two watching the movement and interactions of people.

Small Talk: Ask your date to make up a story about how a couple or group of people met.

Play Mini-Golf

Use Google Maps to find the closest mini-golf course to you. This is called an “Action Date” that helps prevent awkward breaks in conversation since you can focus on making that putt or on asking genuine questions to keep your date interested.

Ice Skating

This is one of the cheapest date ideas that is fun, silly, and romantic– most teens will not refuse a request to get outside and be active. It’s one of the best opportunities to hold your date’s hand by the second zamboni ice cleaning and has a lot of dates after ice skating (e.g., coffee, hot chocolate, stroll, sports game).

Go to the Movies

If you are in the early stage of dating , do something–coffee, dinner, ice cream, sports game–before the movie to reduce nerves before you sit with them for two hours. If there is a scenic area nearby, take a stroll and talk about the movie.

Go for a Bike Ride

Grab your bikes (or rent), find a local bike path or wide-road, and pick a destination or loop.; Get corny and tell them a few candy jokes and puns while on the bike ride.

Local High School Game

Invite your date to sit with you at your High School’s sporting game; Choose a less popular game if you want to keep it more private.

Have an Arcade Date

Still have an arcade near you? The Arcade date is a classic date to keep the conversation flowing.

Go to a Museum

If you have a car or access to public transportation, take advantage of your student discount and head to a local museum. Note: Science museums are not the best first date museum. They are full of parents and toddlers that distract from intimate moments. Also, they are more educational than other museums and have more exhibits to read (thereby distracting you from your date)

My Date Isn’t Sporty or It’s Cold Outside

Besides the usual indoor or winter date ideas (e.g., museums, movies), there’s plenty of indoor date ideas to use to make a connection and have a great night.

Cook Together

Find a time when your parents are nothome and make a quick dinner or banana ice cream.

Play a Board Game or Puzzle

Go to your family room and dust-off the board games. Invite your date over (or head to your place after an afternoon/evening date) to play a game or puzzle you know will be a fun, two-person game. Want to invite another couple? Read our Date Night Game Ideas post for details on what games to play!

Pottery Painting

Use Yelp of Google Maps to find a place to paint pottery.

Have A DIY Painting Night at Home

Read our blog post for how to have a painting date idea at home!

Find a coffee shop to get hot chocolate or herbal tea.

This also can make a good winter date idea that is relatively cheap.

Invite a group of friends over for a cheap night-in.

Double Date/Group Ideas for Teens

We don’t recommend a double date for your first or second date–you want to spend time one-on-one getting to know your crush. However, double or group date ideas are a good opportunity to have fun with other couples or friends to help keep your date engaged.

Race Go-Karts

On the next warm day, find the closest track near you and get in the competitive spirit of racing eachother.

Host a Pool Party

If you have a pool, invite over a few friends and/or another over during a sunny day. Tip: Impress your date with your drink making or cooking skills for this party.

Go for a Local Hike

You don’t need to too far to have a sense of adventure in the great outdoors. Find a national park near you!

Go to the Beach

This beach date idea allows for multiple activities or a more casual/lazy time together.
